A Boy Named Lucas

Lucas Greenfield was a gay teenager sent to a Christian conversion program that promised to make him straight. The methods were punitive, built on the premise that his identity was something to be corrected, even beaten, out of him. A Boy Named Lucas follows his story from inside that world.

Investigative producer Brian Neil Epstein went undercover at the youth program to document what was actually happening to the young people held there. The reporting exposed the program's practices and led to its shutdown in Alabama. Lucas escaped to New York City and the protection of LGBTQ advocates, where the story follows him as he begins to rebuild a life on his own terms.

The investigation stands as an account of what so-called conversion therapy does to the young people subjected to it, and of the reporting that helped bring one program to an end.
